The Animation Production Process in 20 stepsPRE-PRODUCTION1. Story
This is the essence of the piece you are going to create. It’s the great movie idea you have developed. It’s the “vision” of the film. At this stage, the creators need to write and develop the script. This is the reference point for all the other elements involved in the production process. Step 1: Gathering information and script Step 2: Storyboard Step 4: Concept and Visual Development / Look Development Step 6: Animation Step 7: Music Step 1: Gathering information and creating an idea and Script This is when the innitial idea is hashed out. IE "what is a story generally about. A lot of people come together and try to BRAINSTORM. It is at this stage of the animation process that the participation from creative directors and scriptwriters included 2. Storyboarding This is where the script is broken down into scenes and drawn into panels much like a graphic novel. The storyboard allows the director to envision the movie so he or she can decide what will work and won’t work in the film and make appropriate creative decisions with the other artists involved in this stage of the production. . 4. Concept and Visual Development / Look Development In this stage of the animation process, a visual style is created based on the initial concept. These are custom, full-color images that show us how the final video will look.Visual development and concept artists create what the film will actually look like including fully designing elements such as characters, environments, props, color pallets and backgrounds. This gives the director and the team a clear path forward as they go into production, so they know what the look is that they are shooting for. Step 6: Animation Now for the much-awaited stage. This is where the animated explained video starts to take shape! Here, our animators provide the illusion of life to the created visual style. In addition, it is perfectly timed with a good voice-over to make an engaging animated explained video. Animation involves a lot of time, so patience is key. Step 7: Music Finally, it’s time to set the mood of the video, and we do that by adding the perfect soundtrack and sound effects. |
The importance of Visual development and the artist behind it.
Visual Development has a huge impact across the entire entertainment industry, from animation, to live-action films, to video games, and beyond! Their artistic visions help to bring some of the most iconic characters and worlds to a global audience.
The Visual Development stage determines the tone, mood, color scheme, and more for all the characters, environments, clothes, and objects in a film, game, or TV show. It is literally the campus that the remainder of the project to sail on. It's at this stage that people can dream up completely new worlds and bring them to life in the form of concept art, drawings and paintings that embody the creative vision for the project. Art Director While many industries – from publishing to marketing – employ art directors for any project or campaign that requires heavy visual elements, the role is even more prominent in animation. An art director holds a very high position on an animation team, and most creative staff involved on a project report directly to him or her. Not only do art directors have the final say on what footage or stills are to be included in the final cut (as well as helping to coordinate and shape the entire project), but may also be required to train junior staff and manage budgets requirements. Background Artist A background artist or sometimes called a background stylist or background painter is one who is involved in the process of animation who establishes the color, style, and mood of a scene drawn by an animation layout artist. The methods used can either be through traditional painting or by digital media such as Adobe Photoshop. Traditional methods involved painting painting, entireon scenes for a television program or film. Character Designers A Character Designer creates the look and feel of animated characters. Character Designers are only found in certain cases where characters are complex and important enough to merit specialized attention. When that happens though, a Character Designer is hired to blend skills from across fields to create vivacious, well rounded characters. In this role, you work mainly in video games, animation, and illustration. At this position you are a cross-breed between several different (and more common) positions. You are an Illustrator, Concept Artist, Animator, and Game Artist meaning that you (respectively) design your characters, bring them to life, then flesh out their look. Layout artist A layout artist collects and assembles type styles and images, such as illustrations, photographs and drawings, to create a visual design in a computer or on paper. The layout artist is one of several types of commercial artists known as graphic designers who deliver ideas and information through visual communications. Storyboard illustrator While not strictly a branch of animation, storyboard artists usually work hand-in-hand with animation and/or filmmaking teams to help map out a story from start to finish long before work starts. Taking input from writers and directors, it’s the storyboard artist’s job to produce conceptual artwork from stills from which the production team can work – given that a skilled artist can save everyone else an exceptional amount of time (and, ergo, money), they’re highly sought after on film shoots, traditional animation, music videos and commercials. |

This phase is incredibly important, as it will guide the rest of your project. Ideally, this is when an Art Director is used. Today you will be both the art director, environment designer and character designer! Using your brainstorming worksheets and your mood board (the research) collage or sketch an idea as your rough draft to your environment design. Identify some important structures or feature of your world and collage together using at least 5 different pics to represent your scene. Again, remember this is only the rough draft and does not have to be perfect.

tale of the Dragon FallsThe Chinese legend tells of a large school of fish—shining like polished jewels—that made the long and difficult journey upstream against the current of the mighty Yellow River.
When they reached an imposing waterfall many of them resigned to simply return to the flow and went back the way they came. Some of the fish, however, were unfazed and attempted to leap up the cascading water to make it to the top. The gods who witnessed this colossal achievement rewarded the courageous fish for its perseverance by transforming the koi into a golden dragon. This dragon fish now traverses the skies above the river, constantly seeking pearls of wisdom. |
