Motion in Art
Painting and photography allow the artist to capture a moment in time. That moment is frozen... Or is it? Numerous artists have attempted to depict motion and to show movement over time. Creating movement in your painting sounds great—but what does that actually mean, and how do you do it? We all know you can’t really create movement in your paintings—everything you brush onto your canvas is physically stable and will not move once it’s dried. However, with the clever use of some compositional elements, you can at least create the illusion of movement, adding even more depth and interest to your art. Some methods for creating movement:
Watercolor and Ink wash painting have the ability to imply and show movement. The medium itself is fluid. Each brush-stroke can be seen if the artist desires it so. It inherently is gestural which might be why the Chinese favored it in their traditional. Artworks. In Eastern art , the Spirit or Gesture is thought to be more important than aesthetic or beauty even. So artist would try to capture subjects in minimal brushstrokes and lines to therefore hopefully give a gestural (motion) appearance. |
Watercolor and ink wash facesWe ARE GOING TO CREATE MOTION. , students are going to use Photoshop to create artworks that utilize watercolor and demonstrates fluid motion. Students will use the watercolors and ink washes to create an artwork full of movement as well as choosing a pic that displays implied motion.
Step one: Choose a photography with IMPIED motionChoose a high res picture that shows movement.
Step twobegin adding additional value by burning and painting it in photoshop

projectStudents will use the watercolors and ink washes to fill in the value areas of their portraits. Students must utilize color theory as they will pick between analogous or complimentary colors for their portraits.
