Marcelo Monreal
Marcelo Monreal, a Brazilian artist created this series of surreal portraits “Faces [UN]bonded“, where he manipulated the head and layers collage pieces of Floral imagery underneath. Monreal has expressed that he thinks, people don’t show who they really are, they keep parts of their "real" inner selves hidden. Do you think that this Thought of inner self is shown in these works of art? He collages and reveals the beauty that’s behind their appearance or inside them. What beauty is inside you? Surrealism The Surrealists movement sought to channel the unconscious in their artwork and unlock the power of the imagination. Rationalism and literary realism was not important. Surreal Artist believed the rational mind repressed the power of the imagination, weighing it down with taboos, their art sought to counteract that notion. Collage Collage (from the French: coller, "to glue") is an art technique where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. A lot of Cuting and pasting. A collage may sometimes include magazine and newspaper clippings, ribbons, paint, bits of colored or handmade papers, portions of other artwork or texts, photographs and other found objects, glued to a piece of paper or canvas. The term collage was coined by both Cubist artists Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso in the beginning of the 20th century when collage became a distinctive part of modern art. |

Like Monreal we are going to create a collage. Do you think that his artworks display a inner self or inner beauty? Do his collages reveal the beauty that’s behind the appearance of the subject? What beauty is inside you? in society and pop cultures there is aloit of criticisms and ugliness I invite you in this project to seek out and celebrate beauty.
Pick something or someone that you can display a hidden or obvious hidden beauty. Pick a simple or broad theme that you can collage imagery together is a pleasant way. |
Step two: pick a PORTRAIT

go to the internet and find a HIGH RESOLUTION ie not grainy photography of a person. Focus on their face, as that is what we are going to just up and zoom in on.
stay away from celebrities and Choose something or someone you can celebrate either inner or outer beauty of. the more conceptual the better |
