About the Assignment
Like magritte and aykut-aydogdu we will be taking a Organic form (person or animal) and combine them with other non organic or expected/ normal objects. The objective is to combine/ collage them in such a way that its creates a symbolic meaning and a dream like conceptional statement. From this collage you will be digitally painting your artwork. Bellow are some examples of past students
Surreal Facial Feature Painting steps
Step:1
In photoshop collage with at least one facial feature ie nose, mouth, or eye with some other imagery that alludes to a concept ie a dreamlike story.

Digital painting technics
hairHair is tricky to paint. It needs to be linear but still work as a whole shape. I've found luck with blocking out with linear paint stroke all painting in a parallel direction then with a very light about of smudging with smudge tool it can look feathery while retaining the individuality of each hair. bellow is a few websites that show other technics that you may find helpful.

eyeEyes are equally as hard but for different reasons. First everyone things they inherently know what an eye is suppose to look like and would also say that the eyes background is white.....WRONG. the eye is actually round in shape so there it has alot of value ie highlights and shadows making the white of the eye anything but straight white.

Digital painting textures
A large part of achieving realism in digital painting is applying different textures to different parts. The hair of a person should look different than the smoothness of the skin. The way to achieve different textures is to apply different ways of blending or no blending at all. bellow is a worksheet that will help walk you through different blends.
AssignmentLike magrite we will be taking a facial feature that we can then play with the symbolic meaning of to creae a conceptional statement. For example my example is a pic of a eye with a rose for an iris and thorns around the eye. I am trying to say that humans have a very beautify and passionate core but are very guarded making it easy to miss.
