Janet Fish: Still lifes
Janet Fish (born May 18, 1938) is a contemporary American realist artist. Most notably she paints still files, utilizing her iconic painting characteristic of creating bold shapes of light bouncing off reflective surfaces, such as plastic wrap containing solid objects and empty or partially filled glassware.
While Fish's work is described as Realistic. (Realism is the precise, detailed and accurate representation in art of the visual appearance of scenes and objects i.e., it is drawn in photographic precision.)she goes a step further and conveys the lighting and color with exaggerated vibrancy and with bold shaping. When her artwork is looked as a "Whole" it feels realistic but upon closer examination she uses less blending and more bold shapes and lines closely arranged to make up to whole. Characteristics
To sum up her artwork we can break down them down into two important characteristics Vibrancy - Vibrance refers to the increase of a colors intensity. Blues being more blue not muted and very bold. It's sort of like light or "light and dark" , but for colors. value- Value is the degree of lightness and darkness in a color. The difference in values is called contrast. Value can relate to shades, where a color gets darker by adding black to it, or tints, where a color gets lighter by adding white to it. Shapes- Shape refers to a 2-dimensional, enclosed area. Shapes could be geometric, such as squares, circles, triangles etc. or organic and curvaceous. |
