Digital painting is an emerging art form in which traditional painting techniques (such as watercolor, oils, impasto, etc.) are applied by means of a computer, a digitizing tablet and stylus, and software. I work with a Wacom tablet, Corel Painter, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Digital painting is an emerging art form in which traditional painting techniques (such as watercolor, oils, impasto, etc.) are applied by means of a computer, a digitizing tablet and stylus, and software. I work with a Wacom tablet, Corel Painter, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Digital painting is a type of digital art but it is not “computer-generated” art, in that it does not involve the computer automatically generating an image from mathematical models created by the artist. In digital painting, the artist uses painting techniques to create the image directly on the computer. Digital painting is a process by which the artist uses the paint brush of computer to "paint" the image. This is different from other media art process by way that you are creating the image almost from scratch.

What is valueValue -The Element of Shadow
The word "value" is used a lot around this website. And with good reason. Value is one of the seven elements of art. Value deals with the lightness or darkness of a color. Since we see objects and understand objects because of how dark or light they are, value is incredible important to art. (I'll remind you that drawing and painting is about seeing.) Value deals directly to light. We see things because light reflects off of objects and goes into our eyes. Our mind processes the light and rationalizes what we are seeing. Without light, we cannot see anything. In order to draw or paint in a way that creates an illusion of what we normally see, we must fully understand light and how it reacts on surfaces. Value is the key to the illusion of light. This is why value is so incredibly important to drawing and painting. (http://thevirtualinstructor.com/Value.html) Light SourceTo effectively use appropriate values that illustrate light and shadows correctly, you need to be able to visually identify the following components of value:
Light source: The direction from which a dominant light originates. The placement of this light source affects every aspect of a drawing. Highlights-The brightest areas Shadows: The areas on an object that receive little or no light. Cast shadow: The dark area on an adjacent surface where the light is blocked by the solid object. Light Source a light sources in a peice of art is where the artist has illustrated where the light is coming from, ie a window, a lamp, the sun etc. being aware of the light source as the artist is helpful as it helps your render your value accurately and give the lighting a direction. Georges de la Tour Paintings of light sources Take the way La Tour uses lighting effects. The strong contrast of light and shadow betrays the presumable influence of Caravaggio, who pioneered this characteristic baroque style. It is unknown where La Tour studied, but if he did not have direct knowledge of Caravaggio’s work, he would have certainly encountered that of other Caravaggisti. He made the technique his own, however. Caravaggio always located his light-sources somewhere outside of his pictorial space, but La Tour uses his trademark candles to play a little game with light and visibility. Visual art is invisible unless illuminated by actual light. Yet this painting seems to generate its own internal light from the flame ostensibly screened by St. Anne’s hand. (For convenience we’ll assume the traditional identifications are correct.) The figures appear to be bathed in its intimate glow, drawn into existence from the undefined void around them.
