Digital painting is an emerging art form in which traditional painting techniques such as watercolor, oils, impasto, etc. are applied using digital tools by means of a computer, a graphics tablet and stylus, and software. It is just a continuation of the traditional medium with a 21 century twist. When digital painting the artist must still adhere to the same principles and steps as a traditional painter such as, blocking, blending , and rendering details.
Exercise assignment : digitally paint a piece of fruit… Through guided steps students will choose a piece of fruit, and then first Blockin the color using photopea, then blend it in Kleki and . We will be spending one day on each step;
Exercise assignmentChoose an apple or some simple piece of fruit to create a digital painting by. Students will complete all 4 steps of the painting process. a background is not recurrent on this project

Georgia O'keefe Paintings

about georgia and her flowers The American artist Georgia O'Keeffe is best known for her close-up, or large-scale flower paintings, which she painted from the mid-1920s through the 1950s. She made about 200 paintings of flowers of the more than 2,000 paintings that she made over her career. A little lesser known is her work with the southwestern themed material such as the landscape and skulls.
By the mid-1920s, O'Keeffe began making large-scale paintings of natural forms at close range, as if seen through a magnifying lens.This is a strong example of Composition. Composition is a very broad but important term in art. Art is not just about being able to accurately render a scene. Composition in art is essentially the arrangement of visual elements on a page/ canvas in an appealing and narrative way. Georgia knew that composition was important and used a Macro technique (ultra zoomed in) to give her small flowers a big personality and be more visually appealing. O'Keeffe learned modernist photographic techniques, like close-cropping from Paul Stran. and others. She used this close up photography technique to inspire her paintings. She received unprecedented acceptance as a female artist from the fine art world due to her powerful graphic images. Depictions of small flowers that fill the canvas suggest the immensity of nature and encourage viewers to look at flowers differently. |

Assignment 1: MAcro PaintingBefore macro phototagrhy was a trend (macro photography the art of taking extreme close up photos of things, nature, bugs, textures etc. Reveal or examine them in a different way) Georgia Okeefe using the technic to make her flowers seem larger than life. She would take an incredible close up view of her subject that her subject was almost unrecognizable. There is a nice almost poetic notion to this, transforming the narative or point of view of a subject by just zooming in. This is what we are going to be doing in this project.
Students will create their own macro style painting using either a flower or insect ( or something else that is small but through macro can be seen differently) like Georgia Okeefe. Students will compose their subject so that it fills at least 3 quarters of their “frame” which will make their subject feel larger than life. Using the techniques acquired throughout the year and the digital painting, apple exercise, students will create a digital painting of their arrangement. Their paintings should show; color, value, blending, and above all composition. Students can choose to paint their projects in photoshop like the apple demo worksheet or can use any other painting software they have at their disposal. In addition, students in the class will be able to try Wacom tablets. Below are the various tutorials for this project.
