Action ArtMotion or movement is considered to be one of the "principles of art": that is, one of the tools by which artists organize their artistic elements. Motion can show a direct action or it can show the intended path for the viewer's eye to follow through a piece.
Techniques such as scale and proportion are used to create the feeling of motion or the passing of time in static visual artwork. For example, on a flat picture plane, an image that is smaller, blurrier, and lighter colored than the rest will appear to be in the background. Another technique for implying motion and/or time is the placement of a repeated element in different areas within an artwork. Visual experiments in time and motion were first produced in the mid-19th century. The photographer Eadweard Muybridge is well-known for his sequential shots of humans and animals walking, running, and jumping, which he displayed together to illustrate the motion of his subjects. Another important work in terms of motion and time is Marcel Duchamp's "Nude Descending a Staircase" . Known as a Futurist work, this painting also has Cubist influences and exemplifies an absolute feeling of movement from the upper left to lower right corner of the piece. Creating Motion
there are two methods we will be using to create the illusion of motion in a static picture.
The blur effectlike when you slow down the shutter speed of a camera the blur tool helps give the illusion of where the motion is taking place and blurring the movement. This tool can be used on the primary object or in the background
|
REPETITIONby copying and pasting and item in a trajectory the picture will have the illusion of motion. Think back to when you've been in a strobe light and you can see fragments of motion. The repetitions must vary in transparently.

Motion EXERCISE
Create three images demonstrating the illusion of motion
1) use the Repetition Technic
2) use the motion blur Technic on the primary pose
3) use the radial blur Technic on the background
In each picture there should be a min of two internet photo sources ie the action and the background should come from different photos. The Photos taken from the internet should have a point of departure, you must alter the photos and change them enough as to not infringe on copyright laws. '
using Indesign and the template below, place each picture into that layout.

Magazine spread
using the skills you learned about creating motion create a indesign Magazine layout. First you will need to either write or find an article about your theme. (something with action/ moment) ie a review of dance company, or music concert. You will need to create at least 3 images in Photoshop that convey motion and your theme. You will incorporate a text and tittle.
- create three motion graphics in Photoshop
- create a magazine layout in In design
